A year has passed since 18-year-old Haydn’s life was changed forever. He journeys into the remnants of an ancient land; a place where evil runs rampant and nightmarish creatures roam the landscape to finally be rid of his puppet master. Haydn has faced giants, monsters, and whole armies. Now, he embarks on a mission only he can complete and one that has higher stakes than he realizes.

Chapter 1
Perceived as a traitor, Haydn was no longer welcomed in his homeland of Ulger. Thought of as a spy, he could not enter the neighboring country of Oberron. Although a citizen of Oberron, his new master, Alphonsus, cared little for political matters and was willing to take him as an apprentice. But it was not safety Haydn found. Instead, Alphonsus tasked Haydn with removing many dangerous monsters as a threat to the innocent people of the remote northern woodlands.
The creature he hunted the past days neared him as he gripped his sword tightly. He could feel the gentle hum of the weapon, it was like a pulsing heartbeat. The sword itself could appear and disappear at his command. It was part of him. His former master gave him the weapon for her own purposes and using it outside of her command took a great amount of concentration.
Staring into the eyes of the approaching beast, Haydn could not help but feel there was an element of familiarity. While its feline eyes were cold and empty, and all evidence pointed to it being an animal driven by instinct, Haydn felt it somehow knew him.
