Tales From Orin Nodd

With the end of 2023 comes the beginning of a new year. The previous year saw me complete my second book in a series, I’ve been working on for a few years now, called Blade of the Adeln. This book continues the journey and development of my protagonist; Haydn. I also dove deeper into the mythology of the world I am creating, as well as the “magic” of that world. I am fascinated with the idea of ancient powers at work in a young world and I decided to have the mythology based around that idea.

Since much of this book takes place in a land with natural rules much different than that of our own, there was a challenge for me to adequately convey that in my writing. As with every work I do, I see it as an opportunity to grow and learn as a writer. Blade of the Adeln was certainly a good learning experience for me.

This is also the second time I published first on Kindle Vella and then the full story on Amazon. So far, I’ve had minimal success on Kindle Vella. I like the idea of Kindle Vella and the ability to post one chapter at a time and make a little bit of money in the process. However, I’ve had a hard time getting readers outside of putting money into advertising and the return from Kindle Vella hasn’t been enough to justify the spend. There are a lot of factors that could go into why I haven’t had success, such as my family and full-time job made it difficult to post consistently. Regardless, I will need to think through how I would like to proceed with future publications and if Kindle Vella is right for me.

Looking forward to the rest of this year, I would like to post more free content on my website as well as write the third book in my series. I enjoy writing and my goal is to keep learning and growing as a writer. As always, I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my content! Thank you!
